Our Clear Aligner Journey's

We have been working hard to help regain our clients confidence through their smile, and we couldn’t be happier with the results

The Clear Aligner Difference

Clear Aligners are an innovative approach to effectively straighten your teeth with a series of clear plastic aligners that are custom-designed and fitted to suit your orthodontic requirements. With no traditional metal brackets or wires, the course of treatment involves changing aligners approximately every two weeks, sequentially moving your teeth into a straighter position, until you have achieved a beautiful straight smile.

The benefits of Having Straight Teeth

Straightening your teeth for aesthetic purposes is not the only beneficial outcome of orthodontics. Having straight teeth has additional benefits:

  • Gives you healthier gums / reduces periodontal disease.
  • Makes teeth easier to clean.
  • Prevents abnormal tooth wear.
  • Decreases your risk of tooth injury.
  • Improves self-esteem and happiness

Other advantages of Clear aligners include:

  • Better appearance during treatment. Clear Aligners are made from premium medical-grade transparent plastic (polyurethane resin) that’s practically invisible in the mouth.
  • Greater comfort. The flexible plastic and smooth edges of Clear Aligners make them far more comfortable than the wires and brackets of metal braces.
  • Fewer dental visits. Clear aligners don’t need constant adjustments by your dentist. Dental Monitoring means your dentist can review your progress from the comfort of your home.

The Aesthetic Dentistry Teeth Straightening Process

Our clear aligners treatment is completed in four stages:

1. Initial Consultation

You will meet with our friendly dentist, who will determine whether you are a good candidate for clear aligners. In addition to discussing your oral issues and whether they can be treated, we’ll also consider your willingness to keep the clear aligners on for practically 24 hours a day. Should you not be eligible, we also offer alternatives, such as composite veneers  that are done in our Airport West clinic.

2. Aligner Preparation

Once you’ve decided to begin your treatment, we will take x-rays of your mouth, teeth and jaw. These digital images will then be sent to the dental lab, with our instructions of how we want your teeth to move. Once you are satisfied with the positioning of your teeth in 3D form, we will ask the dental lab to make your aligners.

3. Wearing Your Clear Braces

It may take a month for your aligners to arrive at our clinic. Once you have received your clear braces, you’ll wear them for about 20 to 22 hours a day, taking them out only to eat or brush your teeth. You’ll change out your aligner trays every 1 to 3 weeks as your teeth move.

4. Maintaining Your Smile

Treatment of your clear orthodontics can take anywhere from 3 to 24 months, depending on the severity of your case. After your treatment is complete, you will receive a custom clear retainer made from a mould of your new teeth. You’ll need to wear your retainer every night, and replace them every 12 months.

About Misalignment

Malocclusion

Malocclusion is the technical term for teeth that aren’t in their ideal position between the two dental arches. Put simply it means “bad bite.” Different malocclusions can cause various issues with your oral health and can also impact your facial aesthetics.

In cosmetic dentistry fixing malocclusions can play a big role, not only by making teeth straighter but by also providing a solid foundation for any additional aesthetic work such as crowns or veneers. Orthodontic treatment is one way to fix malocclusions.

Katelyn G

Thank you so much for having me in today Dr James! The team was amazing, they made feel sooo comfortable and my teeth are normal super sensitive so honestly a 10/10 experience. Be sure to check them out!!

Matthew S

I have never been a huge fan of going to the dentist but James made me feel incredibly comfortable throughout the whole procedure. It was relaxed and I never felt rushed. I am glad I have found a dentist I can connect with and I'll definitely be coming back for my check-ups.

Chantelle I

So thrilled with my experience with Dr James. He is a perfectionist and made sure I was completely happy with my new veneers. I broke my 2 front teeth when I was 8yrs and no one has ever been able to make them natural until now. They are just perfect and I have so much more confidence. The staff are all so lovely and caring, I honestly couldn’t recommend these guys enough!

Anthony K

Had an amazing experience at this dentistry. The staff were very friendly and Dr James was polite, detailed with explaining what was happening and made me feel very comfortable, regardless of my fear of visiting the dentist. I will definitely be using this place as my local dentist from now on.

Tim W

I have been to quite a few dental clinics in my lifetime and can admit to being fussy at times, however at last I can finally say ive found a clinic that I would be more than happy to go back too. My experience with Dr James B was phenomenal, I was treated with care, respect and professionalism. Ive been to plenty of dentists before and its simply been a chore for both me and them (I wont name names), giving no real reason to go back to the same dentist. Dr James has been the first dentist to show an interest in me as a patient and as a person, taking me through every step of the plan and procedure I had to undergo.

Ari

My son is a little anxious boy and was really scared to go to the dentist. Dr T was amazing with him and took special care to keep him comfortable. I would highly recommend Dr T to anyone who is nervous about seeing a dentist. The best experience.

Aneta R

What an experience. Met Dr Philip Hand to see my child, what an amazing person, been through so many doctors that would just be like you had a bad luck, for the condition of your child, nobody cares. Without even explaining of my daughter condition, he offered his help and handful of best contacts in Melbourne to help me and my girl. He is not only the best dentist he has the hands to help others. Thank you God for meeting a Doctor like Philip Hand, my self Aneta and Aurora will be forever grateful

Amazing cosmetic dental practice, couldn't ask for more! Dream smile and lips achieved

Anthony J

The team at Marriot and Hand were simply amazing. Dr Hand was very knowledgeable and explained everything about the treatments and why it was necessary. Karen was warm and open to all sorts of questions. I never felt rushed. As someone that has not been to a dentist for many years, it was time to face the music - I found them extraordinary professional and caring. Their service was so good I felt like I was catching up for a coffee with a friend rather than a visit to a dentist office. I'll look forward to my next appointment

Nushan Z

Fantastic Staff! Experienced Hygienist and Dentist. Great location with private carparking.

Jass F

After my MCHN suspected the cause of my son's breastfeeding issues was a tongue and upper lip tie, I went to see Dr. Philip Hand. He was one of the more reasonably priced dentists for this procedure. He was very friendly and put me at ease right away. He took the time to examine my son thoroughly and had a great manner with him. He obviously does his job properly and is not just out to get money, as he told me that neither tie was significant enough to warrant cutting. He noticed tightness around his facial muscles, though, and referred me to an oesteopath who has managed to solve the issue. This dentist knows his stuff, is friendly, and if it hadn't been for him, my son would not be feeding properly. Highly recommend him.

    FAQ

Clear aligners can correct mild to moderate cases of crowded teeth, gaps between teeth, overbites, underbites, crossbites and protruding teeth. To find out if they are right for you, speak to our dentists for a consultation.

The number of clear aligners you’ll need will depend on the amount of work that needs to be done. The more aligners you’ll need during your course of treatment, the longer the treatment will take.

Our clear aligners are made of flexible plastic, known as thermoplastic polyurethane.

There are many advantages to clear orthodontics as an alternative to traditional braces, such as:

    • They are more subtle
    • They are removable, so you can eat whatever foods you like
    • They are custom-made to fit your mouth, so you should experience less discomfort

Here are a few things you may not know about clear aligners:

    • You should only drink cold drinks when you are wearing your clear aligners. This is because your aligner is made from plastic, which may be warped by hot liquids, such as coffee and tea.
    • You will need to brush your teeth more often.
    • You may have a ‘refinement period’, where you’ll receive additional aligners to treat the teeth that did not move as they should during the normal course of your treatment.

On average, the treatment period can be anywhere from 3 to 24 months. However, if you don’t wear your aligners for the recommended 22 hours a day, your treatment may need to be extended.

Clear aligners are not invisible, but they are almost undetectable compared to traditional metal braces. Made of transparent medical-grade plastic, clear aligners are designed to be discreet.

Both techniques are effective ways to straighten teeth. The right procedure for you will depend on the type of tooth movement required. If you cannot commit to a long-term treatment and require minor corrections, you may be interested in veneers.

When your clear aligners treatment finishes, you’ll be fitted for a retainer. Your custom-made retainer is designed to maintain your new smile. You will need to wear your retainer for at least 22 hours a day.
